Pantoate kinase

Definition:

EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.169 pantoate kinase
Pantoate kinase is the archaeal CoA/pantetheine-biosynthesis enzyme that reverses the eukaryote/bacteria order. It phosphorylates (R)-pantoate on the 4-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and (R)-4-phosphopantoate; condensation with beta-alanine then follows. In bacteria/eukaryotes the reverse order (condensation first, then phosphorylation by EC 2.7.1.33) is used. It feeds 4'-phosphopantetheine, the essential cofactor of CoA and acyl-carrier protein. Expected in Archaea and Eukaryota.
