Pepsin B
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.23 Aspartic endopeptidases > 3.4.23.2 pepsin B
Pepsin B is an aspartic endopeptidase formed from pig pepsinogen B, belonging to peptidase family A1 (pepsin A family) and found in viruses and cellular organisms. It degrades gelatin and shows little activity on hemoglobin; its specificity on the insulin B chain is more restricted than pepsin A and it does not cleave at Phe1-Val, Gln4-His or Gly23-Phe. In the stomach it digests collagen-derived gelatin. It features a pepsin-like aspartic-protease fold.
