Persulfide dioxygenase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.13 Acting on single donors with incorporation of molecular oxygen (oxygenases) > 1.13.11 With incorporation of two atoms of oxygen > 1.13.11.18 persulfide dioxygenase
Persulfide dioxygenase is an iron protein. Perthiols formed spontaneously between thiols and elemental sulfur or sulfide are its only substrates; it oxidizes S-sulfanylglutathione with O2 and H2O through an S-sulfinatoglutathione intermediate, yielding glutathione, sulfite and 2 H+. The sulfite can be further converted non-enzymically to sulfate, thiosulfate or S-sulfoglutathione (GSSO3-).
