Phlorizin synthase is a plant dihydrochalcone glycosyltransferase isolated from Malus x domestica (apple). It transfers glucose from UDP-alpha-D-glucose onto phloretin, releasing UDP and forming phlorizin (phloretin 2'-O-glucoside). Phlorizin inhibits sodium-linked glucose transporters and gives apples and cider their characteristic flavour. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
