Phosphatidylcholine synthase is the bacterial phosphatidylcholine-biosynthesis enzyme. It requires divalent cations (Mn2+ more effective than Mg2+) and transfers the phosphocholine from CDP-diacylglycerol onto choline, releasing CMP and phosphatidylcholine, a common membrane lipid in symbiotic/pathogenic bacteria. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
