Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.10 phosphoglucokinase
Phosphoglucokinase is a glycogen/starch-branching sugar kinase. It phosphorylates alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate on the 6-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and forming alpha-D-glucose 1,6-bisphosphate, a glucose-bisphosphate intermediate and cofactor of phosphoglucomutase. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
