Phosphoglucomutase (glucose-cofactor)

Definition:

EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.4 Intramolecular transferases > 5.4.2 Phosphotransferases (phosphomutases) > 5.4.2.5 phosphoglucomutase (glucose-cofactor)
Phosphoglucomutase (glucose-cofactor) is activated by D-glucose, which probably acts as acceptor for a phosphate residue from the substrate, itself being converted to the product (cf. EC 5.4.2.2). It interconverts α-D-glucose 1-phosphate and D-glucose 6-phosphate. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a glucose-cofactor PGM.
