Phosphoglucomutase

Definition:

EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.5 Phosphotransferases with regeneration of donors, apparently catalysing intramolecular transfers (deleted sub-subclass) > 2.7.5.1 phosphoglucomutase
Phosphoglucomutase is the phospho-enzyme interconverting glucose 1-phosphate and glucose 6-phosphate. Using the enzyme-bound glucose 1,6-bisphosphate cofactor, it shifts the phosphate between C1 and C6 of alpha-D-glucose, linking glycogen/starch breakdown to glycolysis and glycogenesis.
