Phosphoglucosamine mutase
Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.4 Intramolecular transferases > 5.4.2 Phosphotransferases (phosphomutases) > 5.4.2.10 phosphoglucosamine mutase
Phosphoglucosamine mutase is essential in bacterial cell-wall peptidoglycan and lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis, being a required step in the UDP-N-acetylglucosamine pathway. The Escherichia coli enzyme is activated by phosphorylation and autophosphorylates in vitro with α-D-glucosamine 1,6-bisphosphate (an intermediate); α-D-glucose 1,6-bisphosphate can also serve. It interconverts α-D-glucosamine 1-phosphate and D-glucosamine 6-phosphate. Structurally it is a hexosephosphate mutase.
