Physarolisin
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.103 physarolisin
Physarolisin is a serine-carboxyl peptidase in family S53 from the slime mould Physarum polycephalum, not inhibited by pepstatin but blocked by methyl 2-diazoacetamidohexanoate, with closely similar enzymes in Dictyostelium discoideum and P. flavicomum (formerly EC 3.4.23.6); it has milk-clotting activity and preferentially cleaves Gly8-Ser in the insulin B chain most rapidly, followed by Leu11-Val, Cys(SO3H)19-Gly and Phe24-Phe, with no action on Ac-Phe-Tyr(I)2. By digesting proteins at acidic pH it supports slime-mould extracellular proteolysis. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
