Phytol kinase is the plant/phytoplankton phytol-salvage kinase. It phosphorylates phytol on the terminal hydroxyl, releasing CDP and phytyl phosphate; UTP can act as a less efficient alternative donor. By activating free phytol released during chlorophyll breakdown, it feeds phytol-phosphate recycling into tocopherol and chlorophyll side-chain biosynthesis. Expected in Eukaryota and Bacteria.
