Pinene synthase is a recombinant monoterpene synthase/cyclase from Abies grandis (grand fir) requiring Mn2+ and K+; Mg2+ is essentially ineffective as the divalent cofactor. It produces a mixture of alpha- and beta-pinene from geranyl diphosphate plus diphosphate. Structurally it is a plant monoterpene cyclase.
