Polymannuronate hydrolase
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.2 Glycosylases > 3.2.1 Glycosidases, i.e. enzymes that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds > 3.2.1.121 polymannuronate hydrolase
Polymannuronate hydrolase is an alginate-degrading endoglycosidase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa that endohydrolyses the D-mannuronide linkages of polymannuronate, and does not act on alginic acid, which is a copolymer of polymannuronate. By cleaving the mannuronan blocks it supports bacterial utilisation of brown-algal alginate and the production of mannuronate oligosaccharides. It is restricted taxonomically to Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
