Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.1 Acting on ester bonds > 3.1.1 Carboxylic-ester hydrolases > 3.1.1.78 polyneuridine-aldehyde esterase
Polyneuridine-aldehyde esterase is the Rauvolfia serpentina indole-alkaloid sarpagan-biosynthesis enzyme. It hydrolyzes polyneuridine aldehyde with water, releasing 16-epivellosimine, methanol and CO2 after spontaneous decarboxylation; it also acts on akuammidine aldehyde (16-epimer). Expected in Rauvolfia serpentina.
