Proprotein convertase 5 (PC5/PC6) is a subtilisin-like convertase that cleaves at the RX(K/R)R consensus motif, releasing mature proteins from proproteins by cleavage of Arg-Xaa-Yaa-Arg-Zaa bonds, Xaa any amino acid and Yaa Arg or Lys. By processing precursors it supports developmental and vascular maturation. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
