FtsH endopeptidase is an integral membrane ATP-dependent zinc metalloendopeptidase found in viruses and cellular organisms. It performs proteolytic degradation of membrane and unfolded proteins, coupling ATPase unfolding to proteolysis. In bacteria and organelles it performs quality control. It features an AAA+ ATPase domain fused to an M41-family zinc catalytic site.
