Protein kinase is the broad class of eukaryotic Ser/Thr/Tyr phosphotransferases under NC-IUBMB review. Members phosphorylate serine, threonine or hydroxyl groups on target proteins, releasing ADP, and include phosphorylase kinase (EC 2.7.1.38), PDH kinase (EC 2.7.1.99), HMG-CoA reductase kinase (EC 2.7.1.109), protein-tyrosine kinase (EC 2.7.1.112), CaMK (EC 2.7.1.123), rhodopsin/GRK kinases (EC 2.7.1.125/126), tau kinase (EC 2.7.1.135) and RNA-polymerase kinase (EC 2.7.1.141). Some are activated by cGMP but not cAMP, and some by neither.
