Protodeoxyviolaceinate monooxygenase from Chromobacterium violaceum participates in biosynthesis of the violet pigment violacein. The product protoviolaceinate is very labile and in O2 undergoes non-enzymic autooxidation; violacein synthase (EC 1.14.13.224) can also act on it.
