Pycnoporopepsin
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.23 Aspartic endopeptidases > 3.4.23.30 Pycnoporopepsin
Pycnoporopepsin is an aspartic endopeptidase from the basidiomycete Pycnoporus sanguineus (formerly P. coccineus, Trametes sanguinea), formerly in EC 3.4.23.6. Like pepsin A but narrower, it cleaves only three bonds in the insulin B chain: Ala14-/-Leu, Tyr16-/-Leu and Phe24-/-Phe. In the fungus it digests extracellular proteins. It features a pepsin-like aspartic-protease fold.
