Pyruvate synthase (ferredoxin)
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.2 Acting on the aldehyde or oxo group of donors > 1.2.7 With an iron-sulfur protein as acceptor > 1.2.7.1 pyruvate synthase (ferredoxin)
Pyruvate synthase (ferredoxin) is a TPP/[4Fe-4S] enzyme that reversibly decarboxylates pyruvate to acetyl-CoA, oxidizing/reducing ferredoxin; common in bacteria, archaea and some algae; also acts on 2-oxobutanoate, not 2-oxoglutarate; in low-Fe/high-O2 can use flavodoxin (cf. EC 1.2.8.1).
