Quinolinate synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.5 Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups > 2.5.1 Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 2.5.1.72 quinolinate synthase
Quinolinate synthase is an iron-sulfur [4Fe-4S]-cluster enzyme of NAD+ de novo biosynthesis. It condenses glycerone phosphate with iminosuccinate, releasing pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylate (quinolinate), 2 water and phosphate. In bacteria EC 1.4.3.16 (L-aspartate oxidase) acts first and EC 2.4.2.19 third; in E. coli reversible disulfide bonds on cluster-binding residues regulate activity. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
