(R)-limonene synthase

Definition:

EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.2 Carbon-oxygen lyases > 4.2.3 Acting on phosphates > 4.2.3.20 (R)-limonene synthase
(R)-Limonene synthase is a Mn2+-preferring monoterpene cyclase that forms the first step of carvone biosynthesis in caraway. The enzyme from Carum carvi (caraway) seeds requires a divalent metal ion; it occurs in Citrus, Carum and Anethum, whereas (-)-limonene is made in fir (Abies) and mint (Mentha) by EC 4.2.3.16. It cyclizes geranyl diphosphate into (R)-limonene and diphosphate. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a monoterpene cyclase.
