R-Linalool synthase is a Mg2+-/Mn2+-dependent monoterpene cyclase. Geranyl diphosphate cannot be replaced by isopentenyl diphosphate, dimethylallyl diphosphate, farnesyl diphosphate or geranylgeranyl diphosphate. Unlike many monoterpene synthases it forms only (3R)-linalool. With water it converts geranyl diphosphate into (3R)-linalool and diphosphate. It is found in Eukaryota and Bacteria. Structurally it is a monoterpene synthase.
