D-aspartyl endopeptidase is an N-terminal nucleophile hydrolase found in eukaryotes and bacteria. Paenidases specifically recognize internal D-Asp residues and hydrolyze them on the carboxyl side. In cells it cleaves D-aspartate-containing peptides. It features an N-terminal nucleophile hydrolase fold.
