Ribokinase is a pentose-utilizing sugar kinase. It phosphorylates D-ribose on the 5-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and D-ribose 5-phosphate, feeding ribose into the pentose phosphate and nucleotide-salvage routes; 2-deoxy-D-ribose can also act as acceptor. Expected in Eukaryota, Bacteria and Archaea.
