Ribonuclease E
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.1 Acting on ester bonds > 3.1.26 Endoribonucleases producing 5'-phosphomonoesters > 3.1.26.12 ribonuclease E
Ribonuclease E is the bacterial degradosome core endonuclease. It cleaves ssRNA in A/U-rich regions after binding monophosphorylated 5' ends, sequentially 3'->5', processing 9S rRNA, degrading bulk mRNA and controlling plasmid replication; in E. coli it scaffolds RhlB helicase, enolase and PNPase. Expected in Bacteria, Eukaryota and Archaea.
