Ribonuclease U2
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.6 Phosphorus-oxygen lyases > 4.6.1 Phosphorus-oxygen lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 4.6.1.20 ribonuclease U2
Ribonuclease U2 is secreted by the fungus Ustilago sphaerogena and cleaves at the 3'-phosphate of purines. The two-step endonucleolytic cleavage first produces 5'-hydroxy phospho-oligonucleotides and 3'-phospho-oligonucleotides ending in Ap or Gp with 2',3'-cyclic phosphodiester; cyclic products are hydrolyzed only after all susceptible 3',5'-phosphodiester bonds have been cyclized. Structurally it is a purine-specific RNase.
