Ribulokinase is a pentose-utilizing sugar kinase. It phosphorylates L- or D-ribulose on the 5-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and L- or D-ribulose 5-phosphate; ribitol and L-arabinitol can also act as acceptors, feeding pentose-phosphate and pentose-utilization routes. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
