RNA helicase

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.6 Acting on acid anhydrides > 3.6.4 Acting on acid anhydrides to facilitate cellular and subcellular movement > 3.6.4.13 RNA helicase
RNA helicase uses ATP hydrolysis to unwind RNA; some move 3' to 5', others 5' to 3', and some unwind both DNA and RNA; it may be identical with EC 3.6.4.12 DNA helicase. It hydrolyzes ATP into ADP and phosphate. In splicing, translation and RNA decay it remodels RNA structures. It features a DEAD-box helicase fold.
