Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.5 Intramolecular lyases > 5.5.1 Intramolecular lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 5.5.1.17 (S)-beta-macrocarpene synthase
(S)-β-macrocarpene synthase converts (S)-β-bisabolene into (S)-β-macrocarpene in two steps: first cyclization of (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate into (S)-β-bisabolene (cf. EC 4.2.3.55), then isomerization to (S)-β-macrocarpene. It is found in Zea mays. Structurally it is a sesquiterpene cyclase.
