SAMP-activating enzyme (E1-like) is the Zn2+-containing Haloferax volcanii ubiquitin-like SAMP E1 enzyme. It activates the C-terminal glycine of Small Archaeal Modifier Proteins by ATP-dependent adenylation, releasing diphosphate and SAMP-Gly-Gly-AMP; the activated SAMP can accept sulfur for tRNA thiolation and molybdopterin or be transferred to an internal cysteine (SAMPylation). Expected in Haloferax volcanii.
