Sclareol synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.2 Carbon-oxygen lyases > 4.2.3 Acting on phosphates > 4.2.3.141 sclareol synthase
Sclareol synthase is a class I diterpene cyclase isolated from Salvia sclarea (clary sage). With water it converts (13E)-8alpha-hydroxylabd-13-en-15-yl diphosphate into sclareol and diphosphate; sclareol, used in perfumery, was once thought to be one step from GGPP but is now known to require EC 4.2.1.133 (copal-8-ol diphosphate synthase) plus this enzyme. Structurally it is a diterpene cyclase.
