Scytalidopepsin A
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.23 Aspartic endopeptidases > 3.4.23.31 Scytalidopepsin A
Scytalidopepsin A is an aspartic endopeptidase isolated from the imperfect fungus Scytalidium lignicolum, not inhibited by pepstatin-Ac, methyl 2-diazoacetamidohexanoate or 1,2-epoxy-3-(p-nitrophenyl)propane; a related enzyme, proteinase C, is also insensitive and has Mr 406,000. Like pepsin A it hydrolyzes proteins, but additionally cleaves Cys(SO3H)7-/-Gly and Leu17-/-Val in the insulin B chain. In the fungus it digests extracellular proteins. It features an atypical aspartic-protease fold.
