Scytalone dehydratase is a fungal melanin-biosynthesis dehydratase that, together with EC 1.1.1.252 (tetrahydroxynaphthalene reductase), converts scytalone into 1,3,8-trihydroxynaphthalene and water. It is a virulence factor in pathogenic fungi and a fungicide target. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a scytalone dehydratase (tetrahydroxynaphthalene reductase-pathway) enzyme.
