Small monomeric GTPase is a family of ~50 enzymes (~21 kDa) distantly related to the G-alpha subunit, found in viruses and cellular organisms; they regulate cell growth (Ras), membrane vesicle traffic and uncoating (Rab, ARF), nuclear protein import (Ran) and cytoskeleton organization (Rho, Rac). It hydrolyzes GTP into GDP and phosphate. In GTPase cycling it toggles on/off. It features a Ras-like GTPase fold.
