Sortase A

Sortase A is a bacterial transpeptidase in peptidase family C60 that anchors surface proteins to the cell wall. It cleaves a sorting signal containing the LPXTG motif between Thr and Gly, and covalently attaches the resulting threonine carboxyl end of the protein to a pentaglycine cross-bridge of peptidoglycan. In Gram-positive bacteria it displays virulence factors, adhesins and immune-evasion proteins on the cell surface. It is a target for anti-virulence drugs. It features a cysteine-transpeptidase catalytic triad with a beta-barrel fold.
