Spumapepsin is a foamy-virus aspartic endopeptidase found in viruses and cellular organisms, cleaving peptide bonds at Asn-Thr, Asn-Gln, Asn-Cys and Asn-Ala. In the viral life cycle it matures Gag and Pol precursors. It features a retroviral aspartic-protease fold.
