Tabersonine synthase, characterized from Catharanthus roseus, is a carboxylesterase-like cyclase that catalyzes a regio- and enantiodivergent [4+2] cycloaddition to generate the aspidosperma scaffold of tabersonine (cf. EC 5.5.1.37 catharanthine synthase). It cyclizes dehydrosecodine into tabersonine. Structurally it is a monoterpene indole alkaloid cyclase.
