Thebaine synthase from Papaver somniferum (opium poppy) catalyzes conversion of salutaridinol 7-O-acetate into thebaine plus acetate. The reaction occurs spontaneously at pH 8-9, but the enzyme is required at physiological pH near 7. Structurally it is a BIA-pathway acetyl-CoA-independent enzyme.
