Thermomycolin
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.65 Thermomycolin
Thermomycolin is a thermostable subtilisin-family (S8) serine endopeptidase from the thermophilic fungus Malbranchea pulchella var. sulfurea, containing Cys but not inhibited by p-mercuribenzoate (formerly EC 3.4.21.14); it hydrolyses proteins rather nonspecifically, preferentially cleaving Ala, Tyr and Phe bonds in small-molecule substrates. By digesting proteins at high temperature it supports thermophilic fungal nutrition. It is taxonomically restricted to Malbranchea.
