Thiazoline synthase requires Mg2+. It participates in biosynthesis of some RiPP natural products such as the trunkamides, converting L-cysteine residues into thiazoline rings. It requires a YcaO cyclodehydratase domain and a substrate-recognition element (RRE) domain that controls regiospecificity; the RRE may be encoded as a standalone protein or fused to the YcaO domain. Structurally it is a YcaO/RRE cyclodehydratase.
