Thioglucosidase is a cyanogenic-plant defence glycosidase with wide specificity for thioglycosides, which hydrolyses a thioglucoside into a sugar and a thiol. By cleaving glucosinolates and cyanogenic glucosides it releases isothiocyanates, nitriles and hydrogen thiocyanate as deterrent defence compounds. It is distributed across Eukaryota and Bacteria.
