Tocopherol cyclase
Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.5 Intramolecular lyases > 5.5.1 Intramolecular lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 5.5.1.24 tocopherol cyclase
Tocopherol cyclase has been described from plants and cyanobacteria, with similar activity toward all four listed benzoquinol substrates; it participates in vitamin E (tocopherols and tocotrienols) biosynthesis. It cyclizes δ-tocopherol / δ-tocotrienol / γ-tocopherol / γ-tocotrienol precursors (2-methyl-6-phytylbenzene-1,4-diol, 6-geranylgeranyl-2-methylbenzene-1,4-diol, 2,3-dimethyl-6-phytylbenzene-1,4-diol, 6-geranylgeranyl-2,3-dimethylbenzene-1,4-diol). It is found in Eukaryota and Bacteria. Structurally it is a VTE1 cyclase.
