Torulene dioxygenase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.13 Acting on single donors with incorporation of molecular oxygen (oxygenases) > 1.13.11 With incorporation of two atoms of oxygen > 1.13.11.59 torulene dioxygenase
Torulene dioxygenase is a carotenoid cleavage oxygenase found in viruses and cellular organisms. It cleaves torulene with O2 to 4′-apo-β,ψ-caroten-4′-al and presumably 3-methylbut-2-enal; it cannot cleave the saturated 3′,4′-bond of γ-carotene, so a 3′,4′-double bond is required.
