Trichodiene synthase is a sesquiterpene cyclase that cyclizes (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate into trichodiene and diphosphate; trichodiene is the parent hydrocarbon precursor of the trichothecene mycotoxins (deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin) produced by Fusarium fungi. It is found in Eukaryota and Bacteria. Structurally it is a fungal sesquiterpene cyclase.
