Trimethyllysine dioxygenase

Definition:

EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.11 With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor > 1.14.11.8 trimethyllysine dioxygenase
Trimethyllysine dioxygenase is an Fe2+- and ascorbate-dependent 2-oxoglutarate oxygenase found in viruses and cellular organisms, the first step in carnitine biosynthesis. It 3-hydroxylates N6,N6,N6-trimethyl-L-lysine to (3S)-3-hydroxy-N6,N6,N6-trimethyl-L-lysine, releasing succinate and CO2.
