Tuberculosinol synthase is a mycobacterial diterpene cyclase/hydrolase found only in tuberculosis-causing Mycobacterium species, which produces tuberculosinol together with isotuberculosinol in a 1:1 mixture (cf. isotuberculosinol synthase EC 3.1.7.9). By generating the virulence-associated diterpene alcohol it contributes to mycobacterial survival in the macrophage phagosome and to tuberculosis pathogenesis.
