Tyrosinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.18 With another compound as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into the other donor > 1.14.18.1 tyrosinase
Tyrosinase is a type III copper protein across bacteria, fungi, plants, insects, crustaceans and mammals, central to betalain and melanin synthesis; after binding O2 it both monophenolase-hydroxylates L-tyrosine to L-dopa (NIH-shift-like ortho-hydroxylation) and diphenolase-oxidizes o-diphenols (L-dopa) to o-quinones.
