Ulp2 peptidase is a SUMO-specific cysteine protease found in viruses and cellular organisms. It hydrolyzes the SUMO-SUMO linkage within poly-SUMO chains and catalyzes desumoylation of SUMO-modified kinetochore proteins Ndc10, Bir1 and Cep3. In the nucleus it controls kinetochore sumoylation dynamics and chromosome segregation. It features a SENP-family cysteine-protease catalytic domain.
