Uridylate cyclase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.6 Phosphorus-oxygen lyases > 4.6.1 Phosphorus-oxygen lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 4.6.1.26 uridylate cyclase
Uridylate cyclase, found in bacteria and archaea, forms cUMP that acts as a second messenger in bacterial antiviral immunity. It is synthesized after phage infection and activates immune effectors that execute an antiviral response. It converts UTP into 3',5'-cyclic UMP and diphosphate. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a bacterial cUMP cyclase.
